LL.M. Graduate Jonathan Goldberg’s Speech
Good Afternoon, Peking University Shenzhen:
I am so overwhelmed to be standing here delivering this speech on behalf of the first group of STL LLM students. Participating in this course has been one of the defining moments of my life. I have learnt so much about myself, but also so much about the global community that finds themselves on this great campus.
The LLM program appealed to me because of its flexibility. When I first started discussing the program with professor Lori Reynolds, I thought it was too good to be true. International LLM programs tend to be very rigid in format and substance. The STL course is different. This course gives students the ability to design a course that caters for their specific needs. You have full access to all the JD courses, which allows one a great deal of flexibility when designing a course. Students can choose to focus on American law courses or EU law courses. Students are free to choose a course that deals almost exclusively with commercial law, or procedure. This feature of the program has allowed me to excel at STL.
Apart from the actual course, I have met the most amazing people in China, Peking University in particular. My professors were all so friendly and eager to engage. My peers, from all over the world, gave me insight into their home countries and customs. The admin staffs are always so willing to assist. It has really been a great experience.
I would like to thank everyone involved in getting this program off the ground, and those that assisted me in my move to China. My family couldn’t be here today, but they have been the biggest support for me, both financially and emotionally.
I have loved my time here at PKU Shenzhen. I look forward to coming back to the campus in the future and seeing how far the campus has come.
