Professor Minas Highlights Sustainable Finance Laws in Lecture to Energy Community

STL associate professorStephen Minasgave apresentationhosted by the Energy Community Secretariat on the topic of “Sustainable finance, pandemic and climate transition”. The presentation on February 25thwas part of the“Eternal Summer” lecture series. The series is being held following the postponement of the next Summer School to 2021, due to the pandemic.

The Energy Community is a Vienna-based international organization whose members are the European Union and non-EU countries in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. The organization works on harmonizing the energy law of its parties. In recent years, the work of the Energy Community has increasingly focused on climate change and transition to clean energy.

In his presentation, Dr Minas discussed the development of legal frameworks for sustainable finance, following the adoption in 2015 of the Paris Agreement. The presentation focused on European Union sustainable finance legislation but also considered developments in other key jurisdictions, such as China, and transnational markets and initiatives. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic stimulus packages on the transition to sustainable finance was also considered.

Dr Minas was a participant in the 2017 Energy Community Summer School in Ohrid, North Macedonia, and participated as a speaker in the 2018 Summer School and the 2019 Sustainability Forum.
