STL Associate Professor Stephen Minas was elected chair of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the virtual meeting held last week.
Serving both the UN Climate Convention and the 2015 Paris Agreement, the TEC produces publications, hosts events and makes recommendations to the parties of the two treaties on enhancing technology development and transfer.
At this meeting, the TEC provided guidance on ongoing work in the areas of technology innovation, implementation, enabling environments and capacity-building, and support. The TEC also held a joint meeting with the Advisory Board of the Climate Technology Centre and Network, which provides technical assistance to developing countries. Dr Minas became a member of the TEC at the beginning of 2020 and served as vice-chair of the committee during the previous year.
