Topic: Americanization of International Economic Law: Opportunities and

Implications for South Asian Countries

Prof. Asif H Qureshi is a leading authority in Public International Law and International Economic Law. Between 2012 to 2021, he was a tenured Professor at Korea University, Korea. Prior to that he was a tenured Professor at the University of Manchester, UK. Prof. Qureshi is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Manchester Journal of International Economic Law. His work has been used and cited variously, including in the work of international economic organizations and the WTO Appellate Body. The Korean Commercial Arbitration Board lists Prof. Qureshi as an Arbitrator on the Panel of International Arbitrators; and since 2002 he has been a member of the Roster of Non-Governmental Panelists eligible for Panel service, appointed by the Dispute Settlement Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In 1992 he was a Visiting Scholar at Yale Law School; andin 2016 he was a Visiting Professor in the IMF Legal Department. In 2018 he was conferred the Honorary Seoul Citizenship in South Korea.

Rights in South Asia from International Law Perspectives

Prof. Mohammad Shahabuddin is a Professor of International Law & Human Rights Birmingham Law School. Prior to joining Birmingham, he served Keele University as a Lecturer in Law from 2014 to 2016. He has been a Faculty Member for Harvard Law School’s Institute for Global Law and Policy (IGLP) Workshops since 2013. He received the prestigious Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship (2018-2020) and the Japan Foundation Fellowship (2016) in recognition of his innovative research in international law and human rights. He is the author of Ethnicity and International Law: Histories, Politics, and Practices (Cambridge University Press, 2016) and Minorities and the Making of Postcolonial States in International Law (Cambridge University Press, 2021). As a National Consultant of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), he conducted Bangladesh compliance studies on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) in 2011/12.
