Fernando Dias Simões

Associate Professor of Law

  • Fernando Dias Simões is Associate Professor at Peking University School of Transnational Law. He previously held positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Macau, and Portuguese universities. He holds a PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), an LLM from the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom), and an LLB from the University of Coimbra (Portugal). His research interests include International Investment Law, Investment Arbitration, and Energy Law, with sporadic incursions into other topics of International Law. He is Affiliated Expert at the Asia Pacific FDI Network, member of the Asia WTO Research Network (AWRN), Senior Research Fellow at the University Institute of European Studies (Italy) and member of the Scientific Committee and Senior Research Associate at gLAWcal – Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development (United Kingdom). In the last decade, Dr. Dias Simões carried out research stays at academic institutions in the United States, Canada, China, Australia, Luxembourg, and Sweden; received research grants in Hong Kong, Macau, and Spain; and coordinated research projects funded by the European Commission. He is currently working on a monograph on the reform of investor-state arbitration, to be published in 2025.
