Professor Philip McConnaughay and Asif Qureshi Attend Reception for Foreign Experts Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China


On September 27, a reception honoring foreign experts for their contributions to China's reform and modernization, alongside the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, was held in the Great Hall of the People. The event featured Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, who expressed heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Chinese government and President Xi Jinping to all international friends supporting China’s development.

Professor Philip McConnaughay and Professor Asif Qureshi from Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL) were invited as representatives of foreign experts from Peking University and Shenzhen Municipality, respectively.

Professor McConnaughay, who served as Dean of STL from 2013 to 2023, has attended similar receptions for the 65th and 75th anniversaries.

His extensive experience includes founding the School of Law and the School of International Affairs at Pennsylvania State University and making significant contributions to international commercial dispute resolution.

Prof. Qureshi is fourth from right

Professor Asif Qureshi, who spent part of his childhood in Beijing, brings decades of expertise in public international law and international economic law. He was a tenured professor at Koryo University in South Korea and the University of Manchester in the U.K., where he advised various governments and international organizations.
