Prof. Abiri Engages in High-Level AI Governance Talks

In the first week of November 2025, Professor Gilad Abiri, Associate Professor at Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL), took part in a series of high-level events in Beijing and Wuzhen on technology, law, and AI governance.

On 6 November, Professor Abiri presented his paper Mutually Assured Deregulation at the “New Technologies’ Impact on Law and Institutions” workshop, held during PKU Law School’s 2025 International Week. The workshop, co-hosted by PKU Law School and the PKU Center for Digital  Law, brought together scholars to discuss how technological change is reshaping legal and institutional design.

On 8 November, the Beijing Chapter of the PKU STL Alumni Association hosted the event “AI法律及使用问题 (AI Law and Use Issues)” at King & Wood Mallesons’ Beijing office. Professor Abiri spoke on the strategic logic of “racing to relax regulation” in global AI governance, alongside STL alumna and KWM partner Ms. Wu Han, who reviewed key developments in Chinese and foreign AI regulation. Over forty STL alumni attended, combining professional exchange with a warm reconnection to Yanyuan and STL.

On 9 November, Professor Abiri delivered a keynote address titled “Regulating for AI Legitimacy” at the Law-Based Cyberspace Governance Sub-Forum of the 2025 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit. The sub-forum was co-organized by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), Tencent, and Peking University, and focused on building trustworthy and accountable governance frameworks for powerful AI systems.
