Professor Duncan Earl Alford, former Consulting Director of the Library and Associate Dean for Information Services at Peking University School of Transnational Law (“STL”) passed away at the age of 59 on February 18th, 2023.

Duncan Alford served as Consulting Director of the Library and Associate Dean for Information Services at STL and Associate Dean for the Law Library and a full Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He studied at the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He has served as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Burley Mitchell of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, as a shareholder in a law firm, as a reference librarian at Columbia University, law librarian and European Union specialist at Princeton University, as head of reference and adjunct professor at Georgetown University, and as the founding Associate Dean for Library and Information Services at the Charlotte School of Law. He was a scholar of legal research, and he was the author of Teaching Legal Research.

STL is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Professor Duncan Alford, who is always good friend and supporter of STL. The thoughts of us all go to his beloved family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
