STL Class Field-trip to the Supreme People’s Court’s First Circuit Court

On January 15, Professor Susan Finder led the members of her Chinese judicial reform in comparative perspective class to visit the Supreme People’s Court First Circuit Court (First Circuit) and the China International Commercial Court. After learning about the breadth, development and impact of Chinese judicial reforms, the class members had a chance to see the inside of a Chinese court with their own eyes. Through the course of one afternoon, they had an opportunity to see the facilities of a Chinese court, ranging from the litigation service center to the courtrooms, and library. All had a chance to engage in informal dialogue with two members of the First Circuit Court staff. Class members from multiple jurisdictions shared the specifics of judicial developments through the very international class members, including auditor Judge Georgia Sperber from Brazil. Topics of comparison varied from judicial robes to digitalization. The specifics of the digitalization reforms created the deepest impression on class members.
