Q&A

1. What is the reception scope of the center?

The center accepts full-time students (including students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and international students) who are currently studying at the university.

2. My roommate/friend/partner has not been in good condition recently, can I make an appointment for them to counsel?

Because of the confidentiality of the consultation and the respect for the autonomy of the client, we only accept appointments by themselves. If you are concerned about the situation of the people around you, you can recommend them to contact the center by making an appointment (refer to “appointment method” mentioned above).

3. If I come to consult, will my classmates and teachers know?

The Center strictly abides by the confidentiality principle guided by the Code of Ethics for Clinical and Counseling Psychology of the Chinese Psychological Association (Second Edition), and the counselors of the Center shall not publish or disseminate the experiences described by the visitors during the consultation process without their consent.

If it is necessary for academic communication or other reasons, to report the case, center will eliminate personal information that may identify the visitor.

If the client has the intention, plan or behavior to harm himself or others, or if the client is used as evidence in court for judicial reasons, the counsellor may report the client’s situation to the relevant authorities. In addition, consultation records will be kept in the center and will not be provided to any organization or individual visitors.

4. How do I know if I have made an appointment for a consultation successfully?

After receiving your appointment application form, the center will try to arrange a counselor according to your available time slot, and you will be notified by email or phone after confirmation. Therefore, please keep the phone open and check your mailbox in time (central telephone: 0755-26032104; mailbox: pkupsy@pkusz.edu.cn).

5. Do I have to pay for the consultation?

The center provides free psychological counseling services to students at no additional cost.

6. How many consultations can I make?

Since many students contact the center to make an appointment for counseling every semester, in order to be able to provide each student with the help they want as much as possible, the center has a limit on the length and number of consultations: 50 minutes per consultation, 1 consultation per week, and no more than 8 consultations per person per semester (you can continue to re-schedule in the new semester).

7. What kind of consulting services does the center provide?

The center only provides psychological assessment and counseling related to study and life, personal growth and self-development, and does not provide services including psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, prescription of psychotropic drugs, issuance of qualification certificates, and long-term psychological treatment for patients with severe psychological disorders. If you have the above needs, you can go to Shenzhen Kangning Hospital, Nanshan District People’s Hospital Psychology Department, Peking University Shenzhen Hospital Psychology Department and other professional hospital departments for help (you can make an appointment through the “Health 160” website or official account).

8. Who are the counselors and are there any students?

The team’s consultants include full-time on-campus consultants, part-time on-campus consultants and part-time off-campus consultants, with good professional training background and practical experience. In addition, the center has set up a special off-campus receptionist to handle students’ appointment information and arrange coordination.

9. Can the counselor prescribe medication for me?

Counsellors at the centre are not allowed to prescribe medication. If you need this, you can make an appointment with a professional psychiatrist at Shenzhen Kangning Hospital, Nanshan District People's Hospital or Peking University Shenzhen Hospital (you can make an appointment through the “Health 160” website or official account).
