Oxford Handbook of Transnational Law Published with Chapters from STL Faculty

A new book brings together insights on a vast array of dimensions of transnational law.The Oxford Handbook of Transnational Lawis edited by Professor Peer Zumbansen of McGill University’s Faculty of Law. With 53 chapters, the Handbook provides a contemporary treatment of transnational law of unparalleled scope.

The book has been welcomed as “richly and comprehensively detailing the foundations, fields, controversies, and methodologies that populate the myriad overlapping realms of transnational law and drive its vital, ongoing dialogues with legal practice, legal theory, and legal education” by Professor Harold Hongju Koh from Yale Law School and as “truly an amazing effort” by Professor M. Sornarajah from National University of Singapore, among other praise from leading scholars and practitioners.

Two chapters in the Handbook are written by STL faculty. In the section on “Legitimacy and Politics of Transnational Regulatory Governance”, STL Associate Professor Stephen Minas contributed a chapter on “Climate Change Governance, International Relations and Politics: A Transnational Law Perspective”. In the section on “The Transnational Legal Profession and Legal Education”, Dr. Minas wrote a chapter on “Transnational Legal Education in China”. The latter chapter discusses STL among other examples of transnational legal education and builds on the writings of STL colleagues concerning this topic.

Commenting on the book’s publication, Dr. Minas observed: “A multi-year and truly transnational enterprise has come to fruition. This is a weighty volume in more ways than one and it will be a key resource for the study of transnational law for years to come. Congratulations to Professor Peer Zumbansen on this landmark publication.”
