Abstract: This lecture will discuss the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Org., 142 S. Ct. 2228, which overturned the 1973 precedent of Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113. This lecture argues that Roe was a flawed decision that relied on a history of abortion to justify its conclusions in the majority opinion. In Dobbs, the majority opinion drew on Professor Dellapenna’s book, which provided an intellectual tool for overturning Roe. The lecture will also describe the history of abortion in the Anglo-American world. Professor Dellapenna will also discuss where he thinks this issue will go in the near future.
