Michael Greco

Former President, American Bar Association

Michael Greco is former President of the American Bar Association (ABA) and former partner in the Boston, MA, office of the global law firm K&L Gates LLP. He holds a B.A. Degree in English from Princeton University and a J.D. Degree from Boston College Law School where he was editor in chief of the Boston College Law Review and president of his Class. Following law school he served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Leonard P. Moore on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit in New York, and as a Fellow at the Institute of Comparative Law at the University of Florence Law Faculty. Since 2012 he has taught international criminal law as Visiting Professor of the Practice of Law at Peking University School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen, China, and at China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing. In 2014 he was elected to the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration Panel of Arbitrators.

He served as Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary which evaluates all of the U.S. President’s nominees to the federal courts, as Chair of the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice and as Chair of the ABA Center for Human Rights. He currently serves as chair of the ABA’s International Criminal Court Project (www.aba-icc.org) and its multi-national Board of Advisors, as a Member of the Steering Committee of the International Criminal Justice Consortium, and as Chair of the ABA Working Group on a Right to Counsel in Civil Matters. At the invitation of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights he served as an expert on human rights and delivery of legal aid systems in five Latin American countries and as an expert advisor in Honduras and El Salvador on the selection of Supreme Court Justices.
