Yue (Leo) Liu has a J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. During law school, Yue Liu served as a student attorney for various school clinics and as a legal clerk for a non-government organization. His clients mainly consisted of the most marginalized segments of society, including low-income women and immigrants. Prior to joining STL, he worked with urban refugees in Bangkok as a Volunteer Legal Advocate at Asylum Access Thailand. In addition to directing and teaching Transnational Legal Practice, he offers another class that teaches the skills to empower clients who survived traumatic experiences such as domestic abuse or persecution. He also organizes workshops to provide students with academic support.
