Stephen Minas elected Vice-Chair of UN technology body

STL Professor Stephen Minas is the new Vice-Chair of the UN Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) Advisory Board. The elections were held at the end of the board’s meeting last week in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Established in 2010 and hosted by the UN Environment Programme, the CTCN provides technical assistance and other services to developing countries to enhance technology development and transfer. It works closely with international climate funds such as the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund.

Together with the Technology Executive Committee, the CTCN is part of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism and delivers joint projects such as the #AI4ClimateAction Initiative. It is ultimately accountable to the parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

Professor Minas has been a member of the Advisory Board since 2022 and is also a member and former Chair of the Technology Executive Committee. Following the meeting, Professor Minas said: ‘As the new Vice-Chair of the CTCN Advisory Board and together with our Chair, Mr Fred Onduri, I will be working to maximise the CTCN’s contribution to the transformational change the world needs.’
