Peking University’s School of Transnational Law has established a new global standard of excellence in legal education. STL is renowned for an innovative transnational law curriculum that combines an American style Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with a Chinese Juris Masters (J.M.) degree. The four-year program includes a multinational faculty of internationally prominent scholars teaching students who are among China’s best. The intellectual life of STL is rich, with leading scholars and jurists from around the world visiting campus throughout the academic year. The employment record of STL graduates is outstanding, with graduates assuming positions of responsibility in leading multinational law firms, leading Chinese law firms, major corporations and banks, leading non-governmental and public interest organizations, and various government offices. And, STL has occupied in 2017, a brand new Kohn Pederson Fox-designed state-of-the art law school building, complete with advanced audiovisual telecommunications case study classrooms and a modern courtroom.

Linklaters Scholarship and Financial Aid Program

STL Linklaters Scholarship and Financial Aid Program was established by the Shanghai Representative Office of Linklaters LLP. It is the first school-level scholarship at STL funded by a law firm. Under the program, Linklaters plans to donate RMB 200,000 to the Education Foundation of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School during the period from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2027. The donation is intended to support the development of legal education at STL, encourage students to pursue academic excellence with diligence and integrity, and inspire them to take on social responsibility. Beginning in 2022, RMB 40,000 will be disbursed annually to support outstanding enrolled students who demonstrate strong academic performance, a passion for the legal profession, and financial need. In accordance with the University’s selection procedures and financial aid assessment mechanisms, eight students are selected each year, with each recipient awarded RMB 5,000.

Gray Student Development Fund

The “Peking University School of Transnational Law Professor Gray Student Development Fund” was established through donations initiated by the Class of 2012 — STL’s first graduating class — in honor of and gratitude for Professor Whitmore Gray and all friends who have contributed to the development of STL and legal education in China. The fund was also created to further support the continued growth of the School.

The initial donation is intended to recognize STL students with outstanding academic achievement and exceptional contributions to public service. Beginning in 2022, the fund plans to award four students annually, with each recipient receiving RMB 5,000, for a total annual award amount of RMB 20,000.

Shouzheng Scholarship

STL Shouzheng Scholarship was established in 2022 by Zhou Qing, an alumnus of STL’s Class of 2016, as part of the STL Shouzheng Legal Development Fund. The program aims to support the development of legal education at STL and to encourage students to pursue academic excellence, devote themselves to rigorous legal scholarship, deepen their engagement with public law studies, uphold the ideals of the rule of law, and actively undertake social responsibility. The scholarship recognizes and supports enrolled students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and a strong interest in public law fields such as constitutional law, criminal law, and administrative law, as well as a thoughtful understanding of the rule of law in contemporary China. Priority is given to students who are actively engaged in public interest work and who face financial hardship with supporting documentation. Each year, six students are selected to receive the scholarship, with each recipient awarded RMB 5,000.

SCIA Scholarship

STL SCIA Scholarship was established in 2024 through funding from Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration. The scholarship aims to cultivate talent in international arbitration and strengthen the development of professionals in transnational legal practice. It also supports STL’s teaching, research, and talent development initiatives while encouraging students to pursue advanced study in international law, cross-border legal services, and international arbitration. The scholarship is open to Chinese full-time graduate students enrolled at STL, as well as full-time graduate students in law and legal studies who participate in the Shenzhen Cup and global rounds of the International Investment Arbitration Moot Competition. Each year, a total of 14 students are selected, including six first-prize recipients and eight second-prize recipients. First-prize recipients receive RMB 10,000 each, while second-prize recipients receive RMB 5,000 each

Jingding Shijia Scholarship

STL Jingding Shijia Scholarship was established in 2025 through a donation from Jingding Shijia Management Consulting (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Wang Yongzhe. It is an important alumni-supported public interest scholarship program at STL. The scholarship is designed to support the development of legal education at STL, assist students in their academic and professional growth, and carry forward the tradition of alumni giving back to their alma mater. Open to all currently enrolled STL students, the scholarship will be awarded over a three-year period. Each year, 10 students will be selected, with each recipient receiving RMB 6,000. 

Beginning with the entering Class of 2026, the program will also provide financial support to one incoming student each year. The scholarship amount will be RMB 60,000 per academic year and will cover the student’s full four-year standard period of study.
