Lecture Summary:

In this guest lecture, Dr. Gonzalo Larrea will present the conclusions of his book, Climate Funds and Sustainable Development. Who Pays in the End?, examining whether the climate funds established to achieve SDG 13 are adequate for addressing the impacts of climate change in developing countries. This analysis goes far beyond assessing the sufficiency, effectiveness, or other quantitative aspects of these efforts, as is common in much of the existing literature. The lecture will delve into the root causes of the negative impacts these funds can have on local communities and identify the necessary reforms to realize SDG 13 without implying that the individuals who should benefit from climate finance are the ones who pay in the end.
