SPEAKER:
Benjamin Chen is the Gallant Ho Outstanding Young Professor at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law and a research affiliate of the ETH Zürich Center for Law and Economics. His research focuses on the empirical investigation of legal procedures, examining whether they improve substantive outcomes and enhance positive legitimacy. He has been published in law journals such as the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology, and in social science journals including the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory. He holds a J.D. (Order of the Coif) and Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from UC Berkeley, an M.A. in Philosophy from University College London, an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the École Polytechnique, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago. Previously, he was an assistant professor in public policy at the National University of Singapore, an academic fellow at Columbia Law School, and a judicial law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
