Prerequisites

Law Background or Training:

A law background or training is a requirement for admission, which can be demonstrated by:

1.    A first law degree (J.D., LL.B., abogado, or the equivalent), or

2.    A license to practice law in the home jurisdiction, or

3.    A master’s level degree in a related area with a significant law background

You must submit a transcript and diploma (i.e., certificate of degree conferral) for every law degree or law-related degree you have received.

If you are enrolled in a degree program that is still in progress, you will need to submit a current transcript for that program. If your school is unable to provide a transcript, you must provide an enrollment letter from your school’s registrar. In such cases, your application will not be complete without an enrollment letter.

Please note that your qualifying law degree must be conferred by June 2026 to be eligible to attend the 2026-27 LL.M. program.

English Proficiency:

A high level of English language proficiency is a requirement for admission, which can be demonstrated by:

1.    Nationality of an English-speaking country (i.e., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States), or

2.    Completion of a post-secondary degree taught entirely in English, or

3.    A score of at least 92 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT), or

4.    A score of at least 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System Test (IELTS)

All applicants from non-English-speaking countries who did not complete their legal education entirely in the English language must take the TOEFL iBT or IELTS within 2 years before submitting their applications. We encourage you to register early to maximize the chances of securing your preferred test date and location and to ensure that your scores arrive by your graduate program’s application deadline.

Valid Passport:

A valid passport is required for admission and visa application. We recommend that applicants have at least 3 years or more left on their passport's validity at the time of application.
