亲爱的2025届同学们：

Dear Graduates of the Class of 2025,

大家好！我是来自北京大学法学院的教师张平，与深圳研究生院国际法学院的同学们未曾在课堂上谋面，但我们共同的专业使命如无形的纽带，早已超越地域与时空的界限将我们紧密相连。这是一种基于共同理想的精神共鸣，所以，我站在这里，在你们即将离开校园的时间节点上，表达一个同行人的真诚感慨和祝愿。

Warm greetings to you all. I am Zhang Ping, a professor at PKU Law School in Beijing. Although I have not had the pleasure of meeting you in the classroom at our Shenzhen campus, our shared commitment to the legal profession forms a powerful bond—one that transcends geography and time. It is this shared ideal that compels me to stand before you today, at this pivotal moment of parting, to offer heartfelt words from a fellow traveler on the same path.

在北大法学院从教35年，我曾见证过无数青年从校园出发，但今日面对你们的离校我尤为感慨。这不仅是因为将要目送你们作为“新鲜出炉”的法律人奔赴人生的下一段旅程，更因为看到你们身上承载着的这个极具变革的时代所独特的机遇与使命。

In my 35 years of teaching at Peking University, I have witnessed countless students embark on their journeys from the classroom into the wider world. Yet today, watching you prepare to leave, I am struck by a particular poignancy. This is not only because I am bidding farewell to a new generation of legal professionals, but also because I see in you the unique promise—and weight—of the transformative age in which we now live.

我们常说，世界正处于“百年未有之大变局”，一个前所未有的“新时代”已经向我们走来。这不是一句简单的概括，而是我们每一个人都能真切感受到人工智能正在对社会全领域带来一场巨大的变革，甚至将会面对人工智能带来的种种阵痛。在你们所经历的这几年学习生涯中，人工智能全球化浪潮遭遇顺流与逆流交相迭起，国际秩序在反复重构中变化，技术革命颠覆传统法律规则...这些宏大的历史叙事，不再是教科书上的遥远章节，而是你们论文中的鲜活案例、实习中的真实挑战、求职时的切身感受。这种“变”，对个人或许是磨砺，但对一个民族、一代青年，却是千载难逢的机遇。

We often speak of our era as one marked by “unprecedented change unseen in a century.” But this is no mere slogan. It is a lived reality. Each of us can feel the profound transformations AI is bringing to every facet of life, along with the growing pains such shifts inevitably bring. During your years of study, you’ve seen waves of AI globalization rise and clash, global order in flux, and legal norms upended by rapid technological revolutions. These sweeping currents of history are no longer distant textbook abstractions—they’ve taken form in your papers, your internships, and your job searches. For the individual, such change may feel like trial by fire. But for a nation, and for a generation, it is a rare and defining opportunity.

这个机遇，首先体现在中华民族伟大复兴的时代进程中。中国的崛起不仅仅是一个面对解决关税问题从容不迫的经济现象，更是一场文化、技术和地缘政治的深刻变革。作为北京大学国际法学院的毕业生，你们正站在历史的交汇处，你们所接受的法律教育不仅赋予了你们全球化的视野，更让你们深刻地理解中国法律体系的独特与复杂，赋予你们迎接时代挑战和机遇的独特能力。这种能力，用八个字来概括，就是“扎根中国，对话世界”。“扎根中国”，意味着你们要深刻理解中国的国情、文化和法律实践，知道我们面对的问题是什么，我们的发展机遇在哪里。“对话世界”，意味着你们必须能够用国际社会听得懂、理解得了的话语体系，去交流、去沟通、去贡献中国的法律思想和经验。

This opportunity is first and foremost embedded in the great journey of national rejuvenation. China’s rise is not simply an economic story of steady confidence in the face of tariffs. It is a deeper transformation—cultural, technological, geopolitical. As graduates of PKUSTL, you now stand at the intersection of history. You’ve been trained not only in Chinese and international law, but also in the comparative perspectives that help you see their complexity and communicate their relevance. In seven words, your mission might be summed up as: Rooted in China, Engaged with the World. “Rooted in China” means understanding our country—its realities, its culture, its legal practices. It means knowing what problems we face and where our opportunities lie. “Engaged with the World” means speaking in voices that the international community can hear, understand, and respect. It means contributing China’s legal ideas and experiences to the global conversation.

这个机遇，更体现在技术迭代、智能科技革新的汹涌浪潮中。人类历史上的技术迭代，从未像今天这般迅猛。工业革命用了上百年重塑了人类的生产方式，信息革命用五十余年建构了我们当前的互联网生活，而人工智能带来的新一轮技术浪潮，可能只需几十年便会重塑我们经济、文化、社会的方方面面。大模型爆发式增长，各国加速AI战略布局，社会治理规则重构，全球化博弈加剧。技术革命带来的人类生存、社会伦理、数据隐私、网络安全等一系列复杂问题涌现，这场时代变革也为法律人提供了大展身手的舞台。你们将有机会用智慧和专业知识去应对这些复杂的挑战，去填补规则的空白，去确保技术的发展不仅服务于效率，更服务于公平与正义，服务于人类命运共同体。过去，一代代法律人用数百年时间完善工业时代的规则；今天，你们将从学府走向广阔天地，将参与定义智能时代的法治范式。

This opportunity also lies in the accelerating tide of technological innovation. Human history has never seen a technological shift as swift as this one. The Industrial Revolution reshaped production over centuries; the Information Revolution rewired our lives in five decades. But AI’s current surge may reforge the structure of our economies, cultures, and societies in just a few decades. The rise of large models, the rush of national AI strategies, the reconfiguration of governance—all present legal challenges of unprecedented scope: data privacy, cybersecurity, ethics, accountability. These are not just technological dilemmas. They are, profoundly, legal ones. And they offer you, the next generation of legal minds, a vast new stage. You will help draft the rules of tomorrow. You will work to ensure that technology advances not only efficiency, but justice; not only innovation, but equity. Past generations spent centuries perfecting the rules of the industrial age. Now it is your turn—to help define the legal paradigms of the intelligent era.

同学们，站在这样的历史关口，你们更要清醒地认识到：面对这样一个充满复杂性和不确定性的新时代，仅仅有扎实的专业能力还不够，还需要培养自己的眼界和格局。古人言：“形而上者谓之道，形而下者谓之器。”若将法律人的专业素养和学术功底比作“器”，那么格局和站位便是驾驭这柄利器之“道”。这个“道”，就是更宏观的视野，是看清事物本质的智慧，是理解法律背后价值和原则的能力。未来的你们，或许会深耕法学理论，为国家的立法事业贡献智慧，亦或会扎根法律实务，为当事人的合法权益而不懈奋斗。但无论你们走向何方，都应牢记这一点：作为法学人，首先要有担当，要有大局观，要始终坚守法律正义的初心。

At this turning point in history, it is vital that you recognize: in a world of complexity and uncertainty, professional skills alone are not enough. You must also cultivate vision and moral compass. The ancients said, “What is beyond form is called the Dao; what is within form is called a tool.” Your legal training, your scholarship—these are your tools. But it is your broader vision that must wield them. This Dao is wisdom: the ability to see beyond the surface, to grasp the values and principles that animate the law. Some of you may go on to shape legal theory, others to defend rights in practice—but wherever you go, remember this: as legal professionals, you must first and foremost be people of integrity, with a sense of justice and a view of the greater whole.

2022年，我和法学院的几位老师受聘到北京大学人工智能研究院，作为人文社科专业的教师加入到智能学科的研究中更是具有特殊意义。人工智能已经不再是单一的科学技术问题，不论是通用人工智能还是专业人工智能，都需要融入人文社科的素养和人类正向的价值观，“以人为本，智能向善”是人工智能治理的基本准则，法治是人工智能治理最为重要的手段，而智慧法治更是法律人当有的责任和义务。

In 2022, I and several colleagues from PKU Law School joined the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Peking University. For scholars of the humanities and social sciences to enter the realm of AI research is significant. AI is no longer a purely technical matter. Whether general or domain-specific, it must be guided by humanistic values and social ethics. “Human-centered, AI for good” must be the bedrock of AI governance, and the rule of law its most essential instrument. To build a just and wise legal framework for the AI era—this is your responsibility, and your calling.

在你们即将融入这个新时代之际，除了上述感慨，也送上我的特别期愿：

As you prepare to step into this new era, let me offer three parting hopes:

以饱满的激情和高远的志向开启新征程。这种激情，是对法律事业发自内心的热爱；这种志向，是渴望用法律去服务社会、影响世界、追求更高的价值。作为北京大学培养出来的法律人，你们的身份是多重的，肩负的使命也是特别的。你们是北大的，也是国家的，更是世界的。你们未来将会在各个重要岗位上发光发热，无论是在立法、司法、行政部门，还是在企业、律所、高校，都请勿忘你们身负的法治使命。北大法律人的格局，不是独善其身的精致，而是“弄斧敢于到班门”的胆识与志向。

First, may you set out with passion and ambition. This passion should be a deep love for the law; this ambition, a desire to serve society, to influence the world, and to pursue higher values. As PKU-trained lawyers, your identity is multifaceted and your mission exceptional. You belong to Peking University, but also to your nation, and to the world. You will shine in legislatures, courts, government, business, and academia. Wherever you go, do not forget the mission of the rule of law you carry. The PKU spirit is not one of self-serving refinement, but of fearless engagement and bold aspiration.

以法律人的良知和底线永守初心。当你们走出校园，真正进入到法律实践领域时，将会面对比书本上复杂得多、也充满更多灰色地带的真实世界。在这里，法律不再仅仅是理想国的规则，它与利益、权力、效率、情感等各种现实因素交织在一起。在复杂和充满诱惑的环境中，能否不迷失方向，能否不向不合理的现实妥协，这才是对你们品格最根本的考验。“吾心自有光明月，千古团圆永无缺”，法律人的良知，就是你们心中那轮决不能被功利和诱惑遮蔽的明月。

Second, may you always be guided by legal conscience and moral bottom lines. When you leave campus and step into the real world of legal practice, you will find it far more complex—and morally ambiguous—than any textbook. Law will no longer be a pristine ideal; it will be tangled with power, interest, emotion, and compromise. In such a world, the true test is whether you can hold fast to your principles. “Within my heart, a bright moon shines; its fullness eternal through the ages.” Let your conscience be that moon—never dimmed by the shadows of self-interest.

以谦虚和好奇态度不断学习与时代同频共振。在人工智能技术重塑世界的今天，“持续学习+保持好奇心”已成为新时代的生存法则。这种能力组合正在分化出两类人：一类在算法茧房中逐渐丧失思考能力，另一类则借助AI实现认知跃迁。要成为后者，需要不断学习新知识，拥抱AI技术带给人类的一切利好，也要发现AI滥用带来的技术灾难。AI不是思考的替代品，而是认知的显微镜和望远镜，智能时代的法律人要用法律智慧构建未来的“智慧法律”。

Third, may you learn with humility and curiosity, in step with the times. In this AI-redefined world, “lifelong learning + curiosity” has become a new survival rule. This combination will divide society into two kinds of people: those dulled by algorithmic echo chambers, and those who ride AI to new cognitive heights. Be the latter. Embrace AI’s promise, confront its perils, and remember: AI is not a substitute for thought, but an instrument of insight. In the age of intelligence, let us use legal wisdom to build “intelligent law” for the future.

同学们，毕业，是学习生涯的暂时告别，更深刻和广阔的学习在于社会的大课堂之中。祝愿2025届的同学们，伴随“新时代”的“再出发”，前程似锦，成就卓越！
