Qiaochu Zhu is an Assistant Research Professor at the Japanese Research Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Her research focuses on corporate law, securities regulation, and comparative governance, with particular emphasis on the evolution of corporate governance, disclosure regulation, and ESG-driven corporate reforms in East Asia.

Dr. Zhu holds both a Master’s and a J.S.D. in corporate law from the University of Tokyo. She also received a Master of Jurisprudence (J.S.M.) from Stanford Law School, where she specialized in corporate law and securities regulation and served as an editor of the Stanford Journal of Law, Business & Finance. Prior to joining Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dr. Zhu was a research fellow at the Rock Center for Corporate Governance at Stanford University, and earlier worked in the Tokyo office of Paul Hastings LLP as a corporate-law specialist assisting on China-related transactions.

Her scholarship has appeared in journals of China, U.S. and Japan, such as Jurist (Japan), the International Review of Law and Economics, Northern Legal Science, Modern Japanese Economy, and the Tsinghua Law Journal. Her recent work includes studies on the evolution of Japan’s ESG-oriented corporate governance, the institutional redesign of independent directors, and the development of China’s data law framework.
