This presentation will focus on developing themes within academic libraries, especially academic law libraries. The conventional wisdom is that libraries are doomed to disappear because of two primary premises: users are techno savvy and materials are easily available online. These two assumptions lead to the conclusion that since print materials are disappearing users no longer need mediation to interact with information. This talk proposes that digital know-how is not necessarily information literacy and that there is a continuing place for the academic library in the foreseeable future.
Professor Feliú joined the Villanova University School of Law as Associate Dean for Library Services from the University of the District of Columbia School of Law where he was Director of the Law Library and taught International Human Rights and Advanced Legal Research. Professor Feliú’s scholarship has focused on Civil Law issues in Louisiana, Copyright Law, and in pedagogical reform in legal research. Professor Feliú received his B.A. in Linguistics from California State University, Fullerton, his J.D. and LL.M. in Intellectual Property, Commerce & Technology from the Franklin Pierce Law Center, and his M.L.I.S., with a Law Librarianship Certificate, from the University of Washington. At Villanova, Professor Feliú teaches Advanced Intellectual Property/Cyber Law and Copyright Law.
