Prerequisites
Law background or training: Law degree (J.D., J.M., or LL.B.), or licensed to practice law in their home, or masters-level degree in a related area with significant law background.
Official undergraduate diploma from a recognized university before enrollment in August. (Upon application, you can substitute a letter on school letterhead stating that you are a student in good standing and expected to receive a diploma before the August enrollment date.)
English proficiency as demonstrated by: native speaker, completion of a program taught entirely in English, or test scores: a minimum score of 92 in TOEFL IBT or 6.5 in IELTS (TOEFL/IELTS grades should be earned within 2 years by the time of final admission).
Valid foreign passport. (We prefer 3 or more years to expiration at time of application.)
Application Procedure
There are two (one online, one hard copy) submissions of the application materials and one notification email that are required to be finished before your application is considered complete:
Please fill out the on-line application form and upload other required application materials on the Peking University Application Portal at studyatpku.com/member/login.do by referring to the Instruction for Online Application, which provides step-by-step application instructions with screen shots to help avoid any confusion. Please also note the formats and file sizes requested before uploading the application materials.
Please send an email to STL to llm@stl.pku.edu.cn and to coleagar.pku@gmail.com indicating that you have filed your application online. Attach to your email (1) your resume/CV, and (2) your completed pdf Application Form.
Please send by a trackable delivery method that gives you confirmation of receipt, hard copies of the original documentation including any sealed letters of recommendation to:

Application Materials
Applicants must submit the materials listed below. Applications will only be reviewed after all materials are received. All documents should be written in English. If the documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by a notarized/authenticated English translation.
Application Form for International Students (Master Programs) automatically produced by online application.
Personal statement: Submit a personal statement explaining the reasons you are pursuing an LL.M. degree and how the degree will help you advance your plans and goals. (700 to 1000 words)
Official transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions.
Official diplomas: Submit official diplomas (authenticated copies of documents with authenticated English translations if documents are not in English). (Upon application, you can substitute a letter on school letterhead stating that you are a student in good standing and expected to receive an official diploma before the August enrollment date.) The original of the highest diploma received must be presented in person upon enrollment.
Resume or Curriculum Vitae.
Letters of Recommendation: At least two signed letters of recommendation from professors, employers, or others familiar with your academic and professional qualifications. (original). If sealed, please send the letters with your hard copies of the original documentation or separately, but clearly labeled to the same address above.
Proof of English Competency: One photocopy of results of TOEFL or IELTS examination. TOEFL/IELTS grades should be earned within 2 years by the time of final admission. (unless you are a native English speaker or you have a degree from a postsecondary institution entirely conducted in the English language).
Copy of valid passport, or identification card, preferably with three or more years to expiration at the time of application.
Please note that all the Application Materials must be received before the March 31st, 24:00 hours, Beijing time deadline.
Application Fee
Applications received prior to March 1, do not require a fee. All other applications require a fee of 800 RMB that may be waived at the discretion of the law school for financial need.
Application Deadlines
The Application Materials must be received before the final deadline on March 31st deadline, 24:00 hours Beijing time. Please note that rolling admission deadlines are December 1, January 1, March 1 and March 31.
Note for students from Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan: the deadline is earlier on December 6, 12:00 hours, Beijing time.

Admission Decisions
STL uses a rolling admissions process with deadlines of December 1, January 1, March 1 and March 31. We review completed applications received by the rolling admissions deadlines and then try to notify applicants of the decision by the end of the next month after the rolling admissions deadlines; some applications are held until the committee has reviewed the entire applicant pool after the March 31 application deadline. Official admission letter will be sent out by June.
